Grading
Each grade is awarded when and individual meets the specific requirements for their Kyu grade in class. A specific grading is not required until invited to sit Black-belt.
This encourages the student to commit to as many sessions as possible for quicker advancement through the grades and finds their weaknesses and strengths. The more you put in the more you get out of it. Kumite
This event is held in December for all club members to participate and for families to come and support.
We started this event for fun and also to show students their weaknesses and strengths to progress faster as a martial artist. The difference to other martial art competitions is these techniques can not be used for sport, they are used in a controlled environment to the closest realism possible otherwise injury is inevitable. Students are put under pressure by having a minimum of two attackers for one minute on the mat. They have to demonstrate techniques asked of them for their specific grade and ability. This simulates more practical street awareness and prepares the mind for self defense. For juniors it is a great learning tool as they get to see from the seniors what they can achieve in the future inspiring goals and dreams. For families it is an opportunity to see what their children are and have learnt as well as seeing an overview of the whole art. Awards are granted at the end of competition for each grade and some students are also graded if necessary. This event is part of WDJ grading system, participation and successful in Kumite will be taken into consideration. All welcome to come along and support. |
